It’s nice to start the year here on Your Next Jewelry with a combination of something we support and something we love: eco-conscious jewelry and cocktail rings.

The jewelry brand responsible for bringing these two together is Love Mert. The sustainable brand creates handbags, scarves, hats, jewelry, and other accessories using recycled, surplus, and sustainable materials such as salvaged leather, wood, and natural fibers.

For these Love Mert Trae rings we’re featuring today, Melissa Michelsen, the owner and designer behind Love Mert used remnants from her father’s woodshop.

That sounds like a marketing thing but in this case, you really can’t help but believe it to be true — Michelsen was “born into a family of painters, sculptors, masons, knitters, sowers of seeds and observers of all things beautiful”, so for her dad to have a woodshop is as natural to her as other people’s dads have a tool shed. Or an office desk. Or whatever it is that your own dad has.

These Love Mert Trae rings are made of an assortment of mahogany, walnut, birdseye maple, and cherry burl picked right off from the floor of her father’s woodworking studio:

It’s also easy to see that these Love Mert Trae rings are hand-cut, hand-painted, and hand-finished.

The cuts are rough and the painting is uneven, but like most handcrafted jewelry, these intricacies give them their unique, vintage, natural appeal:

We love how the bright-colored wooden rings above resemble colored pencils but there are also these dark, metallic, and neutral-colored ones:
